Northern Region

Grand Nord

Ground operations in this region require planning for two distinct logistical profiles: coastal and interior.

Not all Madagascar regions carry the same operational profile. The Grand Nord combines two distinct zones: the DIANA region, with its primary road axes and commercial hubs, and the more enclosed SAVA region, where logistics are highly dependent on seasonal conditions.

This structure requires a planning model that assesses access routes and ground support availability for each specific engagement location. Vivy Corporate maintains pre-positioned vendor networks and named field contacts across both sub-regions to provide consistent ground support and reporting.

Operational Notes

Field Intelligence

  • Road Conditions Primary routes in the DIANA sub-region are generally accessible, while access within the SAVA sub-region is highly dependent on seasonal rainfall. Surface conditions can change with limited notice.
  • Air Access Domestic air connections link the region's main hubs to Antananarivo. Schedules are subject to frequent change and require independent verification before finalizing transfers.
  • Connectivity Mobile coverage is concentrated in Antsiranana, Nosy Be, and other district centers. Data access is inconsistent in rural areas and along transfer routes.
  • Permits & Regulatory Access to protected areas such as Montagne d’Ambre or Ankarana requires advance permit coordination. Lead times vary by site and authorization type.
  • Accommodation A range of accommodation is available in Antsiranana and Nosy Be. In the SAVA region and remote areas, vetted options are limited and require advance booking.
  • Transfer Planning Itineraries with domestic flights or long-distance road transfers should include a buffer window. Vivy Corporate coordinates fallback contacts for all key transfer points.
  • Currency & Payments Credit card facilities are limited to select hotels and businesses in primary towns. Ground expenses and vendor payments typically require Malagasy Ariary (MGA) in cash.
