Southern Region

Le Grand Sud

Ground operations in this region require planning for long-distance transfers and variable road conditions.

Operations in Madagascar's Grand Sud demand a planning model that accounts for significant logistical variance between its sub-regions.

The region is serviced by two primary air access points, Toliara and Fort-Dauphin, which serve as logistical hubs for distinct operational zones. The western sector is characterized by arid landscapes and long-distance road transfers, while the eastern sector offers a different terrain profile and infrastructure.

Vivy Corporate maintains pre-positioned vendor networks for ground transport and support services radiating from these hubs. Each itinerary is reviewed for logistical feasibility, with transfer plans confirmed before the final operational brief is issued.

Operational Notes

Field Intelligence

  • Road Conditions Paved national roads connect major hubs, but access to remote sites relies on unpaved tracks. Conditions vary significantly by season and require appropriate vehicle selection.
  • Air Access Domestic air connections link Toliara and Fort-Dauphin to Antananarivo. Schedules are subject to change, and we recommend building buffer days into transfer-heavy itineraries.
  • Connectivity Mobile network coverage is concentrated in and around the main towns of Toliara and Fort-Dauphin. Service in remote areas and during transfers is intermittent or unavailable.
  • Permits & Regulatory Access to national parks and protected areas requires advance permit coordination. Lead times vary by site and are factored into the planning schedule for each engagement.
  • Accommodation A range of accommodation is available in the primary hubs. In remote sectors, particularly the Androy region, lodging options are limited and require advance confirmation.
  • Transfer Planning Long-distance road transfers are a standard operational component in this region. All vehicle and driver assignments are confirmed through our vetted vendor network prior to the start of an engagement.
  • Currency & Payments Credit card facilities are inconsistent outside of select hotels in Toliara and Fort-Dauphin. A pre-planned cash float is necessary for incidental expenses in rural areas.
