About

Operational Sustainability

This is a statement of our operational standards, not a third-party certification. We define sustainability through the specific, enforceable practices we apply to every program we manage in Madagascar.

Our Position

Operations as Environmental Responsibility

Our environmental approach is grounded in logistical reality. We require our vehicle partners to adhere to strict maintenance schedules to maximize fuel efficiency and minimize emissions. Itineraries are designed to reduce drive times and circumvent over-touristed circuits, which mitigates environmental stress and improves the quality of the client experience.

Economic sustainability is a function of our supply chain design. As a non-asset-owning DMC, we deliberately contract with and direct revenue to local guides, independent transport providers, and community-owned enterprises. This model channels tourism revenue directly into the local economy, creating a more resilient and distributed supplier base.

Social engagement is structured through clear protocols and direct investment. Our guides enforce strict codes of conduct for cultural and wildlife interactions. Furthermore, a percentage of revenue from every program is allocated to our non-profit arm, Vivy Green and Humanity (VGH), which funds specific community infrastructure and professional training projects.

Our Approach

Three Operational Principles

Environmental

Ecological Integrity

We design programmes that work within protected area carrying capacities, avoid extractive activities, and route around ecologically sensitive sites during critical periods. Access is coordinated with park authorities and conservation operators, not taken by default.

Positioning — no current certification
Economic

Local Economic Integration

Ground partners, guides, transport operators, and community access contacts are Malagasy. We do not import operational infrastructure. The economic benefit of high-value corporate programmes flows into the regional economies where programmes operate.

Structural — built into our partner model
Social

Cultural Respect

Community access, ceremonial participation, and cultural engagement are arranged through established local contacts who control the terms of access. We do not commodify communities as programme attractions. Every cultural element is structured as a genuine exchange.

Operational — enforced at programme design stage

Our framework prioritizes measurable operational discipline and direct economic routing over abstract pledges or external certifications.

How This Works in Practice

Supplier Vetting Criteria We vet all accommodation partners based on their resource management, including water usage, waste disposal systems, and power generation methods (e.g., solar).
Supply Chain Directives We mandate the prioritization of locally owned and operated businesses—from restaurants to artisan cooperatives—in our procurement process for all programs.
Waste Reduction Protocol The distribution of single-use plastic water bottles is prohibited on all our managed tours. We provide filtered water and reusable containers for all travelers and field staff.
Wildlife Interaction Protocols Our guides are trained and required to enforce minimum observation distances for all wildlife, particularly for sensitive species like lemurs and tortoises, to prevent behavioral disruption.
Fleet & Fuel Standards We contract exclusively with vehicle providers whose fleets are modern and undergo documented, regular maintenance to optimize fuel efficiency and reduce particulate emissions.
Community Investment Mechanism A fixed portion of our management fee is routed to our registered non-profit, VGH, for transparent funding of pre-approved local education and infrastructure projects.
